Is Bankruptcy free?

Bankruptcy is not free.

There is a common misconception that Bankruptcy is free or that Trustees are a government service free of charge. This is not the case. Trustees provide a service, so you are paying them for the service, similar to how you would pay a lawyer for their services. If you have nominal income and no assets, Trustees will charge a monthly administration fee. If you cannot afford this fee, there is the Bankruptcy assistance program wherein the Superintendent of Bankruptcy will assign you a Trustee who will charge you a reduced administration fee.
